Event Details
This Equality, Diversity & Inclusion training will help your group widen participation – we’ll explore our awareness of how different forms of racism affect the environmental sector on a daily basis.
While we are navigating our way forward to honest diversity and inclusion, SCCAN and CEMVO have developed a training opportunity to conduct individual and organisational analysis of methods for engaging with diverse communities. We will consider and question our own awareness of racism today and how different forms of racism are affecting the green sector on a daily basis.
There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to holistic reforms in our ways of working. The first step to all possible solutions would look at generating honest enthusiasm to being responsive to people with lived experiences of inequalities. More often than not, our attempts at creating equality in the workplace are experienced as tokenistic and superficial.
To combat that exploitative nature of our experiments, we must begin with educating ourselves in racism and then thinking of setting up long-term anti-racism frameworks. So, this training workshop will allow you to explore ideas of racism and what it means to put them in and out of practice.
Booking essential – limited to just 15 participants.

Climate for Change Conversations
Event Details
Climate for Change Conversations allow meaningful discussions about climate change to happen at scale.
Having quality conversations about climate change is one of the most effective things we can do to stop it.
The concept of SCCAN’s Climate for Change conversation is a bit like a Tupperware party, but instead of being sold plastic boxes there is an idea communicated: how we can take action on climate change.
Through the night, we will draw on thoughts and concerns that we may have and give a space to air them, to address them and to let them grow into action.
We have trained facilitators and as we realise that we need more of these conversations throughout Scotland we’ve decided to host one online!
Most of all, this is something we really want to share widely.
“I’ve been truly surprised by the lasting impact of my Conversation amongst friends who were previously silent on the issue – we are still talking about it nine months on!” – Jarrod, host

Most people in Scotland are concerned about climate change, but are uncertain and overwhelmed. They don’t know how Scotland should respond or what they personally can do.
Social research shows that we make sense of confusing information and decide what to do about it through conversations with people we trust.

HOT AND BOTHERED is four-day online event taking place from 14-17th July 2022 across time
Event Details
HOT AND BOTHERED is four-day online event taking place from 14-17th July 2022 across time zones that will bring together young people across the globe to connect, exchange ideas and share knowledge to foster action for climate justice.
We see climate change for what it is: a crisis. But the event aims to create a hopeful and joyful space where young people can become change agents to reduce climate doom and generate alternative narratives. Grounded in intersectionality, HOT AND BOTHERED celebrates the diversity of young people both in their identities and their approaches to climate action.
Science Gallery locations and young people will deliver a programme of performances, workshops and games to discuss indigenous climate knowledges, understand the power of data visualisation, co-create activist manifestos, share climate emotions, build youth agency, and more. Register now to join artists, scientists, designers, activists, environmental educators, and performers in this global event.
HOT AND BOTHERED is Science Gallery’s annual Youth Symposium event for 2022. Past events have focused on boredom, trust and co-creation — this year, join a global event with a passion for saving the environment!

Event Details
This workshop on biodiversity, growing and sustainability will be led by Dr Liz Lakin, a senior lecturer at the University of Dundee and the Academic Lead for the Living Lab at Dundee Botanic Garden.
Climate change is already having an impact on our gardens and growing spaces. With a few changes, your garden could become a well-balanced ecosystem and contribute to saving the planet.
During this workshop we’ll be exploring what makes a garden an effective growing environment, the role biodiversity has in this, and the need to plant for sustainability.
Through a series of hands-on activities, discussions and creative exploration we’ll share some practical ideas to help your own garden thrive.
About our tutor, Dr Liz Lakin: Trained originally as a school biology teacher, Liz continues her teaching and research in biology and environmental science at Dundee. She has a keen interest in all things to do with plants.
