Take in a digital experience of the Woodlands Community Anti-Racist Library, including excerpts and images from the books, chosen by the people that use and shape the library collection. Enjoy a series of slides that illustrate a conversation between readers, between the books and readers and between the books themselves. The library grew out of the Woodlands Community Anti-Racism Reflection group which was initiated by local people during the Black Lives Matter protests of summer 2020. People wanted to come together to learn about structural racism, unlearn old biases and create a community of support in this learning.
The group read, listened, watched all manner of media and soon the idea of a library came to be voiced. It is a free library. Each member can borrow up to 5 books. We have books to educate, books to celebrate, books to act as a mirror to people of colour, young and old, where our struggles are acknowledged and our lives are honoured, both in their spectacular moments and in the everyday. People come to borrow books, but more to meet and talk, with the books acting as an access point to conversation and sharing stories.
