The Carbon Literacy for Community Leaders online learning course is a 4 week programme, equivalent to 8 hours of learning, and is part of the Community Climate Leadership Programme (CCLP), funded by the Scottish Government.
We are delighted that this course has been accredited by the award winning Carbon Literacy Project in Manchester. Carbon Literacy means having an instinctive understanding of the carbon impacts of our activities, and being able to make informed choices about the most energy and resource efficient and lower carbon options available to us.
Over these four weeks we will cover the basics of climate science, current and likely future impacts of climate change and what it may mean for your communities, where emissions come from, explore how to communicate climate change and ways to encourage others to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.
There are four modules to the course which will be delivered via a series of video guides, live webinars, online activities, and quizzes. We will use Google Classrooms for much of the content and Zoom for the live webinars.
Information on each of the modules is included below.
Module 1 – Climate Science
This module will cover the basics of climte science and will be delivered in two parts. Part one will discuss why climate change is happening and part two will examine how we know it is happening.
Both parts will be delivered via video guides, activities and quizes in Google Classrooms.
Time commitment = 1 and a half hours
Module 2 – How our climate is changing and impacts
This module will be delivered via a live webinar lasting an hour and a half. Participants will be divided into three groups, however the content covered will be the same. Please select the available time that is the most convenient for you. You will be able to do this on the registration form.

The second part of module 3 will be delivered via a live webinar lasting an hour and a half. Again participants will be divided into three groups, however the content covered will be the same.
