Many of Scotland’s young people are worried about climate change and keen to see action at local and national level.
Registration is open for this new course which will equip Scotland’s youth work leaders with a working understanding of the climate emergency and give them the skills and tools to help young people to turn their concerns about climate change into positive action.
The climate emergency training is being delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful and YouthLink Scotland and is part of the Youth Leader Climate Project funded by the Scottish Government.
Although the focus for the training is youth workers, it is also open to young people who are leaders and mobilisers.
The Climate Strikes are just one example that shows young people are worried about climate change and want to see more action taken. This climate emergency training will equip you with the tools to empower young people to turn their concerns about climate change into positive action.

What will the project offer youth workers?
1. Free online climate change training
The course is one full day of learning, spread across three modules:
Module 1 – This module will cover the basics of the science behind Global Warming and Climate Change. It will highlight the various Greenhouse Gases and how these are emitted by human activities. It will also discuss some of the current and potential future impacts at an international, national and local level.
Module 2 – This module will cover how the impacts of Climate Change are likely to affect the most vulnerable and the least responsible in society. It will also cover how we are responding to the issue on an international, national and local level.
Module 3 – This module will cover our own personal behaviours and how they can impact climate change. We will also investigate how to make personal and group behaviour changes that can help to contribute to tackling climate change. The group webinar will discuss how we can best communicate and inspire young people to respond to the issue.
Each module consists of between one and two hours of course work, that participants can do in their own time at their own pace, and a 90-minute group webinar.
The course will be run continuously for the next few months and participants can pick and choose a time and date, suitable for them, to complete each of the three modules.
Participants who successfully complete the three modules can apply to gain official Carbon Literate accreditation through our partnership with the Carbon Literacy Project.
