This Green Tease event is created by artist Rosanna Irvine and produced by Creative Carbon Scotland. We’re holding three sessions for people from a range of artistic and environmental backgrounds to come together to write shared MANIFESTOS. Please register your interest in attending on the website
MANIFESTOS from times of CRISIS is a participatory public art work by Rosanna Irvine in which groups of people connect across distances and differences to come up with their own collective MANIFESTO. The event forms part of this ongoing project by Rosanna Irvine.
The project was conceived during the COVID-19 outbreak when the UK – along with a third of the world’s population – was under lockdown. Some months later – while parts of the world remain in the grip of the pandemic – Scotland and the UK begin to inch out of lockdown… raising the questions:
- What kind of a world are we inching into?
- What kind of a world do we want?
Operating online, MANIFESTOS from times of CRISIS, creates a virtual gathering space to reflect on what we are learning, how we are living and how we want to continue.
Using consensual modes of group decision-making that seek to foster cohesion, rather than divisions, MANIFESTOS from times of CRISIS asserts a politics of being in commonality.
What’s a Manifesto?
A public declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of a group – usually a number of statements presented as a list.
How it works
MANIFESTOS from times of CRISIS operates on the online platform Zoom facilitated by Rosanna Irvine. Each group meeting has up to 10 participants. Each group will create their own MANIFESTO. These will be posted online gradually accumulating into a collection of MANIFESTOS for a world we want to be living in.
We will hold 3 sessions across 3 consecutive days, allowing 3 different groups to produce their own differing manifestos. The sessions will be held on:
- Tuesday 28th July, 7-8.30pm
- Wednesday 29th July, 7-8.30pm
- Thursday 30th July, 7-8.30pm
Spaces will be very limited and we want to make sure that everyone has the same opportunity to participate, so register online to express interest and we’ll send an email with a link to sign up on Eventbrite once people have had a chance to register interest.
What will happen?
Each group will reflect on and discuss the situation we are now experiencing. The texts in bold above can be a starting point. Through a facilitated process involving whole group discussion – and some time in smaller groups of 3 or 4 people – you’ll move towards your MANIFESTO from times of CRISIS – your collective vision for a world we want to be living in.
