Event Details

We’re familiar with rain in Glasgow, but extreme weather events are on the rise, threatening homes, businesses, and communities. Land cover and drainage are key!

The Giving Nature a Home team will explore this topic through a webinar as part of our Glasgow to Globe events series. Each week we’ll look at a different climate issue and some natural solutions through webinars, practical conservation, and guided walks.

In the lead up to UNFCCC COP26, held in Glasgow from 1 – 12 November, RSPB Giving Nature a Home team are working with volunteers to create a greenspace themed around climate change and how we can work with nature from a local to global scale.

As part of this project, we will explore these topics through themed weeks, which will include webinars, led practical conservation sessions and guided walks in and around Glasgow.

Weeks beginning:

6th September – Overheating. As the world is getting hotter, find out how plants and waterways can keep us cool from distant forests to a garden pond.

13th September – Food security. Climate change is already threatening our global food supply. With knock-on effects to food availability and prices, we all stand to be affected. Let’s talk about climate and food!

20th September – Flooding: if it doesn’t rain, it pours! Extreme weather events are on the rise, threatening homes, businesses, and communities. Land cover and drainage are key.

27th September – Climate-Ready Cities: cities aren’t immune to the impacts of climate change, how do you bring nature into urban environments and what benefits are there for people?
