Organic Growing Workshops with Propagate

This is a six week course which is designed to give a good all round understanding of organic growing skills and community gardening. We ask each participant to commit their time to for the full 6 session dates listed below or to split the time with someone else in the same community. If there are some dates that you can’t make from the list below please let us know via email: [email protected]

July 4th – Soil Health and Composting: The key to growing great veg is having great soil. A good soil is rich in microbes and organic matter, and helps us to lock up carbon for a healthier environment.

July 11th – Wildlife Friendly and Permaculture Gardening: Gardening with nature, including no-dig systems, forest gardening principles, mulches, habitats and more.

July 18th – Community Garden Must-Knows: A session on planning a community garden, community engagement, volunteer management, health & safety and risk assessments.

July 25th – Gardening with Kids top tips and activities to keep younger humans engaged in the garden.

August 8th – Crop families, Rotations and Companion Planting: To start off a great organic garden, first you need to know what different plants bring to and take from the soil, and why crop rotation is important to avoid using fertilisers and the build up of disease.

August 15th – Pests and Diseases: Learn to identify the most common pests and diseases in organic growing, and learn natural methods to control them.

These events will be hosted at our small community growing plot behind Falkirk Active Travel Hub. If you have any questions about access please get in touch with us. The majority of activity may be outdoors so please dress warmly. Refreshments will be provided.
