RADIO BUENA VIDA PRESENTS: NIGHTWAVE AND GEORGINA PENSTKART

Nightwave (Maya) and Georgina Penstkart will be playing sacred ceremonial music from the Amazon rainforest.

Glasgow based Maya Medvesek better known as Nightwave is an internationally established DJ, producer, vocalist & label boss. Renowned for her energetic DJ sets, she has toured clubs and festivals around the World and shared stages with some of the biggest names in electronic music. She regularly guests on platforms like Boiler Room, BBC Radio1, NTS but also local stations like Radio Buena Vida and Clyde Built.

Aside music, Maya dedicates time to activism, support and study with Indigenous communities from the Amazon rainforest, particularly the Huni Kuin and the Yawanawá. She also co-runs “Love Amazonia”, a fair trade project supporting Indigenous women artists in the state of Acre in Brazil and is a part of team Jiboiana during COP25 – organising events for a group of 5 Indigenous leaders and activists.

Georgina Penstkart is a visual artist from Glasgow. She provides unique live visuals for a number of well-known clubs and has produced a number of music videos independently and with her video production partner SOFT RIOT.

Georgina has more recently entered the world of DJing and holds down a residency at Radio Buena Vida as well as being part of the all-female collective, EPIKA.

Georgina has gained experience sitting in traditional ceremonies with indigenous people of the rainforest and has connected deeply with the plant medicines and music of these sacred traditions. She has helped to co-facilitate ceremonies with friend and kambo practitioner Maya Medvesek and has fundraised for the Huni Kuin in Brazil using only ethical Fair Trade tools direct from their friends in the rainforest.
