Stitches For Survival are holding a social sit and stitch. Stitches For Survival is a group of knitters, crocheters, stitchers and crafters from across the UK and beyond with a heart-felt message to the COP26 climate talks. We are knitting, crocheting, stitching and crafting 1.5 miles of climate messages for the negotiators to urge them to take bold and binding action together. The Stitches For Survival scarf will be used for campaigning locally and nationally in the lead up to COP26, with a big roll-out of the scarf on the 6th and 7th November on Glasgow Green.
Come along to help us sew the beautiful panels together or get inspired to make your own!
We are hosted at Climate Fringe Week by two of Glasgow’s leading textile social enterprises Merry-go-round and our partners R:evolve Recycle Swap Shop.
Merry-go-round is a pre-loved baby and children’s boutique with an events space in the Southside of Glasgow and R:evolve Recycle Swap Shop operate clothing exchange swap shops with stores in Rutherglen, Hamilton and Cambuslang. Both organisations aim to keep high-quality clothing circulating in the community, saving customers money and helping the environment.
At their first joint event for the Climate Fringe Festival, you will have the opportunity to make up a bespoke Merry-go-round starter pack of good-as-new pre-loved babygrows, vests, outfits, books and blankets which will go straight to a family in need via their partnership programme with local health visitors, social and charity workers. We will ask you to pay it forward and donate £5 and will assist you with putting the outfits together and preparing the packs.
There will be information on a T-shirt’s journey from maker to wearer and there will be a range of beautiful pre-loved baby and toddler outfits and equipment to buy at low prices.
As a thank you, we will invite you to take an item of clothing from R:evolve Recycle Swap Shop’s rail: trousers, top, dress – whatever you like! You might even want to sign up for R:evolve’s free points-based clothing exchange scheme and become a regular swapper.
Please come along to say hi, get involved in some baby pack-making, take away an item of clothing, and find out more about what we do in our community!
