This Halloween the COP26 Coalition and Extinction Rebellion Edinburgh welcome you to join a march through the city on Sunday 31st October to mark the start of COP26 in Glasgow. Help us try and stop the Climate Horror.
COP26 is the most important global climate event since the Paris Agreement in 2015.
Falling at the start of COP, this march will call on our leaders to act and make the bold commitments that we urgently need. At this pivotal moment, XR are charging the world’s most powerful governments with Crimes Against Humanity – mass manslaughter by gross negligence. We know what a sane, fair and compassionate response to the climate emergency would look like, and we know that the majority of people support action. Yet a minority are currently preventing that better tomorrow. Unless we act right now and stand up to them as if our lives depend on it, they will have committed us to a future where the best we can hope for is mitigating exponential catastrophe. Another world is not just possible, it is necessary! But it will only happen if a critical mass of people come together for this shared cause, amplify the voices of those on the front lines, and demand the truth and a meaningful route to change.
The march will leave from the Meadows around 11am and be heading along the bridges and down the Royal Mile before ending at the Parliament by around 1pm.
We will gather there for a rally, with short speeches on the eight themes of XR’s COP26 Rebellion:
– Fossil fuels
– Nature and biodiversity
– Food security and farming
– Ocean and water
– Loss and damage / climate finance
– Marginalised voices and communities
– Refugees and climate displacement
– Arms, security and conflict
Now is the time to act.
Note that we recommend everyone to take a lateral flow test before the match and only come if it comes out negative. Unless medically excempt, masks will be advisory.
