“A stunning meditation on climate crisis” – The Guardian

Cynan Jones’ sixth book Stillicide
is made up of twelve interconnected stories set in a future where life
has been transformed by the scarcity of fresh water. Originally
commissioned as a series of fifteen-minute readings for BBC Radio 4,
this is a moving story of love and loss and the will to survive, and a
glimpse of an all too tangible future.

Come join The Dark Philosophers this
April to read and discuss this prescient work by one our most talented
writers. We recommend that you read the book in advance if you can,
although short passages will be read aloud during the session.

We’ll also take some time to explore
water imagery more broadly in Welsh writing, and its symbolism in
relation to cultural as well as ecological crises.

All welcome, especially those new to writing from Wales. Feel free to contact group convenor Casi Dylan with any questions: [email protected]

About The Dark Philosophers

The Dark Philosophers is an
open reading group which brings the literature of Wales out of the
shadows. Encompassing writing in Welsh and English, contemporary and
ancient, rural and urban, we are building a reading list as expansive
and complex as this small nation itself.
