Event Details

Forest degradation and disturbance are growing sources of CO2 emissions in the Brazilian Amazon. Land grabbing and other illegal deforestation, particularly in Undesignated Public Forests, now account for one-third of annual forest carbon emissions. In contrast, Indigenous Territories and Protected Natural Areas have the lowest emissions of any land category. This session explores the decisive role of land tenure and the importance of protecting forests to tackle the climate emergency.
