2 February, Online Conversation via Zoom
An informal conversation about intersectional topics and inclusion matters in the Highlands and Islands. Individuals from all sectors are invited to explore routes towards inclusion, within a safe environment. This event is organised and chaired by Fadzai Mwakutuya, Afro Art Lab, discussions will identify training needs and share strengths. Fadzai is an artist from Zimbabwe, living in the Highlands, who makes thought provoking socially engaged artwork;
“Artivism is my cathartic process to transcend from negative systems of oppression.. an emptying of the neverending clogged mindset.”
Joining in will be Gillian Neish, a trainer who works with individuals and organisations to help them recognise and fulfil their potential. Gillian designs and facilitates courses which encourage people to think beyond stereotypes and accept the reality that there are as many differences in any one group as in any other group (even their own group, however they choose to define their group). She enables participants to explore the nature and impact of power inequalities in society and to develop practical strategies to eliminate discrimination and value diversity.
In order to explore a future manifesto for the Highlands & Islands we’ve invited Scottish artist Rosanna Irvine to share her current project ‘MANIFESTOS from times of CRISIS’. This is a participatory public art work in which groups of people create their own collective manifesto. Each manifesto-making event operates through a facilitated discussion. This idea could be taken forward with Rosanna in future sessions.
Zoom meetings take a lot of energy but this is a relaxed session, please bring a hot drink, snack or pet and feel free to come and just listen.
