About this Event
The term ‘just transition’ is increasingly common in discussions about how we move away from fossil fuels to tackle the climate crisis. But what does it actually mean and who is shaping the process right now?
In 2020, Friends of the Earth Scotland, Platform and Greenpeace surveyed nearly 1,400 offshore oil and gas workers to hear their views about conditions in the industry and their priorities for the energy transition. They spoke about increasingly insecure work, an unregulated industry and a huge appetite to move into alternative industries – but the opportunities aren’t there and retraining is extortionate.
Now we want to hear from you as the communities of the North East of Scotland. You might be retired, you might work in a hotel in Aberdeen, you may be disabled – the energy transition is an opportunity to take a totally new approach to the way our energy industry and communities function.
Your voice must be heard loudly in planning the future of energy and what that means for the North East. What are the problems you see around you in your towns and cities? What do you think are the solutions to tackling them? And most importantly, how can we work together to turn those demands into reality through a transformed green energy sector?
For the transition to be ‘just’, it has to be led by the workers and communities most impacted. Join us for this interactive event to discuss what a truly Just Transition for the North East could look like and how we get there.
