There are very few defining moments in history, but for members of the Argyll and Bute community this is your chance to be in the driving seat, at the threshold of a new era, a grassroots developmental movement for Argyll and Bute.
Be at the forefront of change and help to create a road map designed to enable a sustainable and resilent future for the communities across the region. Together we can embrace this opportunity, engage with peers in order to achieve the ambitious goal of formalising the Argyll and Bute Network; and discussing the path to Regional Hub creation.
In this informal gathering, we will discuss the Argyll and Bute Network in anticipation of its launch; along with how the Argyll and Bute Regional Climate Action Hub might be developed.
This is your opportunity to ask questions and to really begin to understand this exciting just transition to a better future.
An overview will be provided of what is happening across the region. We will examine how the network can be utilised as a force for change within Argyll and Bute. And begin discussions to define what the priorities should be for the Network and Hub.
Overall, at the end of the day it is hoped that you will leave feeling inspired, armed with a better understanding of how, through the Network and Hub, we can achieve improved outcomes for our communities across the whole of Argyll and Bute!
Together we can turn this vision of a Regional Network and Hub into a reality!
This and all events are open to any individual, community group or business. You do not need to be climate-focused, and you do not need to have an understanding of climate science.
This event is for anyone who wishes to see a fairer, greener future for Argyll & Bute and wishes to contribute to the development of our regional Argyll and Bute Network.
This event is free to all and all are welcome.

Themes: Honouring our pain, Eco-anxiety relief & meditation.
Being engaged in climate action can carry an emotional toll. We’re exposed to disturbing and disheartening information, face frustrating obstacles, and will be acutely aware of what’s at stake. How can we protect ourselves from becoming overly sunk, overwhelmed, disillusioned or burnt out? What helps us face the mess we’re in, find our inspiration and keep showing up to play our part?
Following our previous Active Hope introductory webinar with Chris Johnstone (rewatch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgKH4ZiC_dM&t=2784s), we are offering a practice session using ‘honouring our pain’, ‘eco-anxiety relief’ and meditation practices. Those practices are based on the teaching of Chris Johnstone and on the work that reconnects network.
This session will be an opportunity to practice this approach designed to nourish and support our engagement when in difficult conditions.
We will do some practices and meditations that can relieve eco-anxiety, and strengthen mutual support and heartfelt solidarity.
Active hope is different from being hopeful; it is an energy of engagement that can happen through us, through our actions and choices and continued determination to make a difference.
This approach has been authored by Chris Johnstone and Joanna Macy, authors of ‘Active Hope: how to face the mess we’re in with unexpected resilience and creative power’. Chris is known internationally for his writings and online training, his work explores what helps us face disturbing situations and respond in ways that contribute to positive change. He has websites at https://www.activehope.info and https://chrisjohnstone.info. He also presents a free online course in Active Hope at https://activehope.training.

A monthly skillshare for writers who create or are interested in creating stories with the themes of climate and environmental justice, building on SCCAN’s Storytellers Collective.
Whether it’s a landscape or a cityscape we are all drawn to certain places. This skillshare will explore what aspects of place, and those who inhabit it, fascinate us and how they can be effectively recreated when writing about climate.

Are you concerned about climate change but not sure how urgent it is and how you can make a difference? Join in for a friendly, facilitated discussion to explore these questions in a short one-off session.
Having quality conversations about climate change is one of the most effective things we can do to stop it.
The concept of SCCAN’s ‘Climate for Change’ conversations for newcomers is a bit like a Tupperware party, where – instead of being sold plastic boxes – an idea is communicated: how we can take action on climate change.
We draw on concerns we all have in the session – and allow space to address them and to let them grow into action.
Our trained facilitators understand we need more such conversations in Scotland and we’re hosting one online!
Please be on time (and stay until the end) so our volunteer facilitators can support a distraction-free conversation with time to catch up after, and so they don’t have to give up more of their time than they already are!
There’s no cost to attend the session – although you can contribute a small donation if you wish. We will ask people to consider hosting their own ‘party’ – and build a movement of people who understand what needs to be done and what they can do!
Most Scots are concerned about climate change, but are uncertain / overwhelmed and unsure how to respond. Social research shows that through conversations with people we trust we make sense of confusing information and decide what to do about it.

Each character in your climate story should have their own voice, motivations and thoughts. In this skillshare, we’ll peel back the layers of character and learn tips on how to create ones that aren’t merely an extension of ourselves, but with distinct passions and personalities all of their own.
