Hundreds of people across the UK are taking action on the 24th March 2023 to demand their local government pension funds divest from crisis and invest in our future.
Join us on the 15th February to find out why, and how you can get involved.
Background
In the last year we have sat in the cold, unable to afford to heat our homes and watched in horror as the climate crisis intensified, with floods tearing through Pakistan, drought devastating the Horn of Africa and storms surging through the US, Japan and Mauritius.
The spiralling cost of living and the breakdown of the global climate are both symptoms of an unstable and unjust energy system, founded on fossil fuels.
This is one crisis; a fossil fuel crisis.
Investing in fossil fuels won’t keep us warm this winter – Investment in a sustainable future has never been more urgent.
Despite more than 75% of councils declaring a climate emergency, UK local authority pension funds pump over £10bn into highly polluting fossil fuels.
On Friday 24 March 2023, people across the UK will come together in town and city centres to demand our local institutions finally cut off the money pipeline to fossil fuel polluters and free up funds to invest in clean, cheap energy.
Will you join them?
Event details
At the event you’ll hear from organisers from UK Divest, from people organising a demonstration in their area and from an expert on the cost of living and climate crisis. We’ll see you there!

Groups will be coming together locally between now and March 2023 to co-design unique public mobilisations that tell the story of our broken energy system and present the alternatives for an equitable and liveable future for everyone.

Getting your campaign message to the thousands of people in your community watching local TV or listening to a local radio station means you can reach far more people than you ever could in person. But, once you’re on the air, do you know what you’re going to say?
In this training, you’ll learn some techniques for getting your campaign message across effectively and have the opportunity to prepare through practice interviews, with the help and advice of UK Divest staff and other day of action organisers from across the UK.
We’ll be covering the basics around messaging and storytelling, to interview preparation, and non-verbal communication. Don’t worry if you’ve never done media interviews before!

If you’re not already signed up to organise a local action in your area on Friday 24th March, all the details to get involved can be found here: https://www.divest.org.uk/doa-organiser-2023/
