Join writer, artist, researcher and Scottish Communities Climate Action Network story weaver Joana Avi-Lorie for a hands-on fun storytelling workshop focused on climate resilience and justice!
For children 8 and adults alike, this workshop will involve several quick and intuitive writing exercises exploring themes such as biodiversity, clean energy, food security, and social justice, leading up to the creation of an original fairy tale or science fiction story. Each story can be written, drawn, performed, or filmed with your phone – there’s no limit to creativity. The stories will be shared with the group at the end of the workshop, but no need to feel pressured – someone will be able to help you out. Join us for an afternoon of imagining, dreaming and mobilising for climate justice, together!
This event takes place on the weekend of the Huntly Hairst, a time where local food, producers, skills and knowledge is celebrated. Check out our other events we have going on, including a Reading Room of texts and books collected throughout Hussein’s project, and a Huntly Climate Ceilidh taking place in the evening.

‘When you row a boat you are looking backwards, but moving forwards.’
Join us for an evening of discussion as we bring together creative practitioners and environmental experts from around Scotland to explore the importance of due diligence to the past and present when planning for a sustainable future. Speakers will share their experience of working with communities and local archives to create a sense of shared ownership of the past and recording the story of now as an important first step in uniting communities to envisage a new future.
Speakers will discuss concepts including Roman Krznaric’s The Good Ancestor (long-term thinking in a short-term world) and Tradition Bearing on the Isle of Skye, as ways to connect past and present with the future and tell the story of people and place across all three as a continuous narrative.
This session will bring together community representatives, creative practitioners and those passionate about the environment to share their questions and discuss their ideas for a better future.
Arrival from 6pm. Panel discussion from 6.30-8pm. Networking from 8pm.
This event is produced by Open Road Ltd, a local creative organisation based in the harbour area of Aberdeen. Open Road is dedicated to using culture and creativity inspired by people and place to transform lives and work towards a more sustainable future for all.
This event is taking place as part of the Green Tease events series and network, a project organised by Creative Carbon Scotland, bringing together people from arts and environmental backgrounds to discuss, share expertise, and collaborate. Green Tease forms part of the culture/SHIFT programme.

Event Details
An educational and community building event for mushroom lovers, mycology enthusiasts, and fungal curious folk that explores urban mushroom cultivation, the role that the fungal kingdom plays in ecosystems, and explains the ways that our farm is part of a circular economy.
Rhyze Mushrooms is a non-profit urban community mushroom farm located in Edinburgh city centre at the Forge in Fountainbridge. We grow mostly oyster mushrooms from waste streams like spent coffee grounds, brewers grains and sawdust that might otherwise wind up in landfills. We built our farm using upcycled materials whenever possible. Our event will begin with get to know you activities – followed by small group discussions – then farm tours, log inoculations, making mini-mushroom growkits from trash, and a chance to explore our farm. This will be followed by some music, food, and refreshment.

We’re excited to invite you to our first Share and Repair community repair shop and skills share on Saturday 10 September!
Our Share and Repair event will see local craftspeople and businesses in Aberdeen offering their help to repair items that have seen better days, as well as sharing these skills with our group gathering local autistic teens and their parents, carers and friends.
The idea is to to create a free meeting place and be all about repairing things (together). Visitors will find tools and materials to help them make any repairs needed. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, etcetera.
Believing in the ‘right to repair’, we strive to mobilise local communities into a civic movement of ‘sharing and repairing’ and start our own Repair Cafe as a follow up plan.

LSC BIO (Be Involved Outdoors) Group are a group of volunteers who have been working to improve the biodiversity and beauty of Albert Park on the southside of Glasgow since an ecological survey was carried out in 2020. The park is a 10 acre multi-sport club, but is also a designated Site of Importance to Nature Conservation. It is boundaried on two sides by the White Cart river and extensively tree-lined – a hidden green oasis. We have planted lots of pollinator friendly plants, created a habitat hedge (dead hedge), introduced native hedging, have introduced composting, greened up the hard spaces at the club and we are transforming a 130 metre grassy bank into a wildflower bank, and more besides – come and see what we have achieved. On the day there will be a map to guide you around the park, volunteers on hand to answer questions. In the Clubhouse there will be a slideshow of photos from the past two years of hard work, a wildflower seed giveaway, and some free refreshments. There will also be a display of COP 26 placards – a nostalgic reminder…

Gilded Lily will be organisng a visit to the Vanguard project in Strathaven for up to 20 women from Govan and surrounding areas. Targeting at least 50% of participants from BMAE and refugee/asylum seeker communities, we will provide transport to take the group to visit a farm project, to get out of the city and connect with nature as well as taking part in upcycling craft and growing sessions, followed by a discussion on climate change.
Govan is one of the top 10% most deprived areas in Glasgow (IMD) and women we work with experience many barriers and issues such as social isolation, financial deprivation, lack of opportunity, poor mental wellbeing. This event will provide a great opportunity for women who might not have been out of the city, to reconnect with nature whilst learning about the importance of recycling and growing to help reduce the effects of rubbish and waste on the environment. They will also plant some herbs & flowers to take home and learn about seasonal growing/eating and the importance of biodiversity.
Our discussion will focus on climate justice, where women will share the experiences of climate issues they have experienced as well as family members living in other countries. This will provide a connection with how our activities are affecting people/places in other countries.

Celebrating Biodiversity and at the same time raising awareness of Biodiversity loss, we are hoping to come together with a family event educating and informing others through creative activity. There will be a humorous stage show ‘The Pollinators Party’, Dee Ukes (lovely cheerful ukuleles and voices) and other entertainment. There will be many activity stalls, including quizzes, pollinator puppet making, garden designing, face painting and more. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust will be attending and assisting us. Most of our activities are free. We are there to educate and help our attendees to think about our Natural World and how we can look after it.
We would very much like other groups to join us by running their own stall or volunteering to help on one already set up …..everyone is welcome.

You don’t have to be a great singer, we just want people who are enthusiastic about climate campaigning and music!
Admission is free – there is a suggested £5 charge if you want us to print music for you, but we hope people will either read from a tablet (to save paper!) or print the music themselves at home.
The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and we will do all we can to meet any other access needs for singers. Covid precautions will be taken as appropriate.
We’ll be singing songs of warning, protest, solutions and hope, by composers from all around the world. All music will be sent out in advance, with links to recordings so you can learn by singing along.
For more details and to hear some of the music, visit https://choirsforclimate.com/2022/08/01/come-and-sing-edinburgh-18th-september/ .
