Carbon offset schemes allow individuals and companies to invest in environmental projects around the world in order
Carbon offset schemes allow individuals and companies to invest in environmental projects around the world in order to balance out their own carbon footprint. The sector is growing very quickly and Scotland has already seen major natural capital investments led by institutional investors, corporations and charitable trusts. This climate café will dig deeper into the why and how and hopefully provide you with food for thought and for action!
The speakers will discuss and try to answer:
What is carbon offset? How do carbon offset schemes affect Scottish communities? Can carbon offsets be best designed and implemented, in ways that support a net-zero, Just Transition?
The speakers are:
Dr Nikolaos Vlassis from the University of Aberdeen on business and legal aspects of offsetting
Marta Dondini from the University of Aberdeen on the biology of sequestration and land use change
David Hunter from The Habitat People on approaches for carbon sequestration in gardens and green spaces
Each speaker will give a 15-20 minute presentation. There will then be a chance for the audience to ask questions.
Come along in person or online and find out more.
