Event Details

Affordable housing is not being built anywhere near fast enough in rural Scotland.

At this event, we will be exploring ways in which communities can take matters more into their own hands to build more appropriate housing, and build them faster, while considering other spaces and workplaces needed to create a thriving rural community. Do we need facilitators to guide communities through the complex system? Do we need, and if so how can we get, a fast-track route through planning? We will showcase inspirational models such as John Gilbert Architects’ East Whins Ecovillage at Findhorn in Morayshire. We will also consider alternative and hypothecated funding models, such as Kankei-jinkou, which are used in Japan.
