Event Details

Would you like to join a monthly sociable book group? Would you be interested in reading environmental and climate topics, and participating in a research project?

  • Monday 16th October: ‘Weather’ by Jenny Offill!
  • Monday 20th November: ‘The Opposite of a Person’ by Lieke Marsman!
  • Monday 11th December: ‘The Quarry Wood’ by Nan Shepherd

Please read the book before attending the session so that you can contribute to the discussion. You are welcome to source your own copy or the books are available from Inverness Public Library, Farraline Park, Inverness. Email: [email protected] or Phone: 01349 781370.

The book group is part of PhD student Ingrid Brubaker’s research and is a collaboration between Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop, UHI Inverness and High Life Highland Libraries. When you sign up for the reading group, you will be provided with the relevant forms and questionnaires.

A hot drink of your choice will be provided between 6.30-7pm.

Ingrid is interested in exploring whether reading groups might help engage people in environmental action or change their perception of the natural world. Climate fiction or ‘Cli-Fi’ is a new book genre which deals with environmental issues and climate change and often encourages the reader to consider our planet’s future and our relationship with nature.

You can join one or all of the book group sessions but please sign up on eventbrite each time. There are limited spaces for the session so please only book if you are able to attend. This event is supported by funding provided by the Highland Community Waste Partnership.

Photography: We will also take photographs during the session for sharing on social media and reporting purposes. By signing up, you are giving consent to having your photo taken. If you are not comfortable having your photograph taken, please let us know.

Attendance & cancellation policy: Please only book a ticket if you know you are able to attend. If your plans change, you must cancel your ticket and let us know with at least 48 hours notice of the event start time so that others can attend.
