Join our Conservation Officer for a relaxing 1.5 hour wildlife walk along the coast to find out more about the seabirds, shorebirds, and cetaceans that can be spotted around Scotland during the autumn and winter months. Learn more about citizen science surveys, why they’re important, and how you can get involved in collecting data to safeguard wildlife and marine habitats. Everyone is welcome to ask questions, share their knowledge and experiences, or simply unwind and enjoy the wildlife.

These walks are for adults (18+) and cost £7.50 per person (£6.75 for Scottish Seabird Centre silver members, £6 for gold members). This money is gratefully received and will go towards supporting our education and conservation work around Scotland.

Friendly, quiet dogs are welcome on our walks, but we ask they are kept on a short lead throughout.

Route

The walk will start and finish outside the Scottish Seabird Centre, taking participants on a return journey along Milsey Bay Beach (East beach). Walks will vary depending on the wildlife around and the particular interests of the participants, but a variety of species and habitats will be explored and discussed.

What will we provide?

Binoculars (for the duration of the walk), wildlife ID sheets, a citizen science information leaflet, alcohol hand-gel (if needed).

What do you need to bring?

Walking boots or shoes, warm, waterproof clothing appropriate for the weather outside, a drink, any medication you may need, a face covering, a mobile phone, sun protection (good weather days).

Accessibility

Unfortunately, this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users or pushchairs. The walk is around 4km – please consider whether this is a manageable distance for you before booking. It is mostly easy-going and flat (along the beach), but it does include one steep incline/decline and one set of steps.
