Event Details

Climate change is happening now and we need to get ready. Over the last century temperatures have increased, sea levels are rising at an accelerating rate and rainfall patterns have changed, with increased seasonality and more heavy downpours. Even if we were to achieve net zero tomorrow, these changes are projected to continue and intensify over the coming decades. Achieving net zero is no longer enough. We have to adapt to cope with our new, uncertain climate. Over the next decade everyone will need to adapt their buildings to the changing climate. From homes to community centres, schools and workplaces – the buildings that we rely on are facing a climate that they were not designed to cope with. While climate change is a clear and present threat, this is also an opportunity for us all to create better buildings, communities and places that are resilient to the changing climate. Communities that are rich in green and blue space and that support healthy communities and resilient, wellbeing economies. During the event, Cat Payne from sustainability charity Sniffer, will lead a session on how you can make your community buildings climate ready. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A panel, when Cat will be joined by a number of other experts. Throughout the event, you will have the opportunity to network with other like-minded groups and individuals and share your own knowledge on this topic. After the session, we will have the chance to take a quick tour of The Ecology Centre to see first-hand the adaptations they have implemented at their venue, after which a light lunch will be served.
