On Wednesday 23rd February at 6.30pm, join Friends of the Earth Scotland for an online screening of the uplifting film: “Divest: Have You Heard From Johannesburg?” which reveals how the divestment movement played a crucial role in challenging the apartheid regime in South Africa. We’ll also learn how this movement inspired fossil fuel divestment campaigns around the world.
We’ll be joined by special guest speakers, MSP Maggie Chapman, youth climate striker with Fridays for Future Scotland Dylan Hamilton and Divest Harvard organiser Ilana Cohen, who will share how Scottish pension fund investments in coal, oil and gas companies are leading to injustice and pollution for communities around the world.
We’ll also find out how our pensions can help tackle the climate crisis and how the global fossil fuel divestment movement is taking on the world’s biggest polluters.
There will be a chance to meet people from across Scotland and beyond, including campaigners from Divest Lothian, Divest Strathclyde and Friends of the Earth Falkirk.
We’ll discuss how we can build on the work of the climate justice movement after COP26 and how we can use this year’s Scottish council elections to secure meaningful climate action.
This event is free and everyone is welcome!
