Event Details

Join writer, artist, researcher and Scottish Communities Climate Action Network story weaver Joana Avi-Lorie for a hands-on fun storytelling workshop focused on climate resilience and justice!

For children 8 and adults alike, this workshop will involve several quick and intuitive writing exercises exploring themes such as biodiversity, clean energy, food security, and social justice, leading up to the creation of an original fairy tale or science fiction story. Each story can be written, drawn, performed, or filmed with your phone – there’s no limit to creativity. The stories will be shared with the group at the end of the workshop, but no need to feel pressured – someone will be able to help you out. Join us for an afternoon of imagining, dreaming and mobilising for climate justice, together!

This event takes place on the weekend of the Huntly Hairst, a time where local food, producers, skills and knowledge is celebrated. Check out our other events we have going on, including a Reading Room of texts and books collected throughout Hussein’s project, and a Huntly Climate Ceilidh taking place in the evening.

Accessibility

This free event will be taking place in Square Deal, a fully accessible venue. The Square Deal garden will be open as a quiet space. If you have any dietary requirements or other accessibility requirements, please let us know at [email protected] / 01466 794494.

About the project

This event is a part of The World is Ours, In Spite of All, a project with artist and educator Hussein Mitha. The project, made in collaboration with young people, explores how climate justice can repair our world, considering education and its challenges in a time of climate emergency with an aim to cultivate an ethos of inspiration, cooperation, connection and solidarity to rise to those challenges.
