Since the UK Government approved the Jackdaw gas field in June, public opposition to the decision has been mounting. Opening new fields flies in the face of the action we need to cut climate pollution.
People from all over the UK are planning a week of action from 20th-27th August to show the government and the oil and gas industry that this project must be stopped.
We know from the campaign against the Cambo oil field last year that people power works. The public pressure which forced the Scottish Government to come out against Cambo was instrumental in creating the conditions needed for Shell to pull out of the project.
Now the Scottish Government must make a strong statement in opposition to the Jackdaw field and all new oil and gas in the North Sea, as well as embedding this commitment in Scotland’s Energy Strategy later this year.
We know that MSPs care what their voters care about. That’s why we are encouraging and helping people to meet with their MSPs to ask them to oppose the Jackdaw field.
We know that meeting your MSP can be nerve-wracking, especially if you haven’t done it before, so Friends of the Earth Scotland is running a training session to help you prepare.
We’ll hear the latest in the Stop Jackdaw campaign, share top tips on how to influence politicians and answer any questions you might have about meeting your MSP. The training will be held on Zoom and is open to everyone.
Please register and we will send you out the Zoom link to join the video call before the event. See you there!
