Join us at Comrie Croft to get some hands-on experience of how to do plant biodiversity surveys.
Ecologist David Bell will lead a workshop in plant biodiversity. You’ll learn the basics of identifying plants visually, and surveying them scientifically. The workshop is taking place as part of the Grassroots Hut project, where we are using turf to build a roundhouse at Comrie Croft. The biodiversity survey is an important part of our work on the site, so this is a chance to get real-life, hands-on experience of ecological survey.
This workshop is designed to engage volunteers who might be interested in returning to Comrie Croft to undertake repeat biodiversity surveys over the next year. Returning for a solo survey will give participants the opportunity to practise the survey methodology learnt in the workshop without supervision. Once everyone has had chance to return to the site to undertake a solo survey, there will be a follow-up session with David via Zoom to discuss the methodology.
However, participants in this workshop are not obliged to come back for a solo survey, and there is no set time commitment attached to any further engagement with the project. Come along, and if you enjoy it, come back again!
Comrie Croft (http://www.comriecroft.com) is located near Comrie in Perth and Kinross. There are toilets on site, and a café where you can go for lunch when we take a break at 1pm (or bring your own picnic). On the day, meet David outside the reception area. From there, there is a short walk up to the survey site up a fairly steep hill. Please remember to bring water with you and dress appropriately for the weather.
Places for this workshop are free, but very limited, so please only book if you are able to join us on the day.
