Nourish Scotland invites you to take part in designing a new piece of social infrastructure: the public
Nourish Scotland invites you to take part in designing a new piece of social infrastructure: the public diner.
We have public transport, libraries, housing, a public health system, but there is very little public infrastructure around food. We need an institution that supports us to eat, and eat well. This is both necessary and urgent.
This one-day conference will plan what public diners might look like in Scotland. We will:
- Get inspiration from the 1940s’ British Restaurants and other examples
- Discuss the benefits Public Diners could deliver for our health, economy, social security, social cohesion and climate
- Work out a model for a public diner – menu, food sourcing, service and more
- Get the chance to experience and review a prototype public diner menu.
An evening closing event at 6:30pm will bring us together over food, to reflect on the day and plan first steps. Expect an exciting public-diner-style feast.
Please book your tickets here.
Please note: The cost of the event (for both the day’s conference and the evening event) is £20, to be paid at registration. This cost is refundable: we will be in touch with you after the event for you to claim your refund, should you wish to do so. If you require a free ticket in advance, please contact Abigail at [[email protected]].
