Event Details

A free drop in sewing session to help you repair, alter, and upcycle old clothes and fabric. Part of Scotland’s Climate Week 2023.

Drop in for help to mend your clothes or learn how to sew. After all, the most sustainable garment is the one already in your wardrobe!

Our drop-in sewing session is open to everyone from beginners to experts to meet, share and get advice on sewing and mending clothes.

We have sewing machines, tools, and some supplies to use. All you need to do is bring the clothing you want to mend and we will teach you how to fix/upcycle or alter it. This event is part of the Library’s Scotland’s Climate Week programme.

Examples of things we can help you with:

  • mending knitwear
  • mending with regular techniques
  • visible mending with embroidery, sashiko, boro, patchwork
  • adjusting garments to fit better
  • trousers fraying at the crotch, knees, etc
  • fixing a zip, replacing a button
  • using a sewing machine
  • fixing a torn seam
  • upcycling

Follow the Repair What You Wear with SHRUB page for more examples and tips related to sewing.
